Dancing All The Way Workshop – Berkeley
DANCING ALL THE WAY 2010
Saturday – Sunday September 25 -26 2010
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
(This workshop is not appropriate for beginners. Fundamental skills of rolling, falling, weight sharing and dancing off-balance are required)
A weekend intensive training with Martin Keogh
One way to look at Contact Improvisation is as a framework of skills that encloses the place where we meet to dance: in the empty middle.
During this weekend workshop we will focus on technique, enlarging the frame, to give us more empty space as we dance all the way.
Rather than dance our skills, we will use them as a foundation of safety and possibility as we enter the raucous, intimate and unpredictable flow of contact improvisation.
We will explore:
• Moving from a base of sensation
• Dancing with a shared central axis
• Seeking ease in going off balance
• Finding the spontaneous acrobatics of the form
• Spending more time in nuance, disorientation, and extended follow-through
